Quickstarter by Oscar Lhermitte

Ok, I have to stop looking at Kickstarter, everytime I am searching for something to post on the blog, I found something I fall in love and pledge for the product!

This time is something quite original the Quickstarter by Oscar Lhermitte, a tape with a few interesting measurements that I am sure it will be perfect to decorate my journaling creations, envelopes and even my little one boxes!
The Quickstarter is a collection of two rolls (made with vinyl) one with a Ruler and protractor and the other one with some formats and sizes...

I promise I will make a post when I'll receive the tape and with my creations with them! ;)

Desastre - Català; Ara i Sempre

Desastre is not a nice word, but we use it sweetly when we have to call our little one, el nostre petit desastre, our small "desastre"... /dəzæstrə/

Any idea? Is not very different from the english word, so I suppose you already guessed... Disaster; an overwhelming calamity or catastrophe. Do you call your loved ones any original name? Tell me!

I searched for songs and quotes with the word "Desastre" and almost all of them were quite sad, in the end I found this one, and I think is quite appropriate...

"Tots els mestres han sigut abans un desastre"
"Every master was once a disaster"

Crispetes - Català; Ara i Sempre

Living in Ireland has some good things, one of them that today is bank holiday! ;) So this means I will be relaxing and reading all day, yuppy! So possibly this afternoon I'll do some Crispetes! /krɪspɛtəs/

I don't think you will guess what does Crispetes mean with just the word, it doesn't have any similarity with English, Spanish, Italian... so I have no idea where it came from, but they are Popcorn! Yes, similarity? None at all!

Today, instead of sharing a quote or song, I want to share with you an easy but delicious recipe I use with my popcorn while watching a movie at home!
You just need pop kernels (I have a popcorn machine, so I always have some pop kernels at home, I love all the different types you can find at Zaramama, but in any supermarket you can find the gold ones!) parmesan, oil, salt and pepper. And when the popcorns are done simply dress up, first with the oil (I put a little oil and salt always in the base of the bowl) and then the salt, pepper and parmesan. Mix it up, I normally jump the bowl a little, and voilà, some delicious "Crispetes" to accompany your movie! ;)

End Game by Matt Johnson - Blog Tour

End Game by Matt Johnson
Genre: Mystery Thriller
Source: Orenda Books
Rating: 5/5

In the new book of Robert Finlay we will have secrets, murder and a poisoned chalice that everyone who sees it appears dead... will be our main character the next victim?

"'End Game' Kevin has said. It was code, well, sort of. Like saying we had one chance left. I'd never put it to test before, although I was well aware that other had. It was recognition that in desperate situation, the only option wasn't a good one and was likely to end badly. At all levers within the Regiment there was an acceptance that if being captured by enemy forces was bad enough for ordinary soldiers, for Special Forces it was always worse. And although those times had been the best part of two decades since, I knew all too well what 'end game' meant to them, and what it now meant to us. All or nothing."

This is the last book of the Robert Finlay trilogy, but let me say that you can read it perfectly without having read the previous books, but is so addictive and well written that I would recommend you to start from the beginning, this is one of those books that has a complex story and so addictive that you will not be able to stop reading till the last page.
Robert Finlay thinks that his past is buried, but when his former colleague and friend discovers that someone is spying on him, he knows that something is not right. Yes, both of them have made enemies in the past, but who could be trying to frame them with a murder and ready to kill everyone that talks about a very secret document? Robert will need the help of his friend,  the MI5 agent Toni Fellowes, who trusts and knows that even if his life is in danger she will help him.
I always read fiction, but really sometimes fiction scares me more than reality, for example in this book, Finlay is not spied by a dark agency in another country or a serial killer, he is pursued by someone in the same country he is working and with enough power to kill someone and frame his best friend for it. How can someone has so much power and no one able to stop him? I really, really, want to think that reality is not so dangerous, but then watching the news, you could see that fiction and reality are the same nightmare. Good job Matt Johnson, your book seems real and dangerous as reality, fingers crossed "the good ones" win in reality too! ;)
I hope this will not be the last adventure of Robert Finlay, I know this is the end of a chapter, but his adventures are so engaging that I want to believe I will read another of his missions soon.
Ready for a layered up plot with brave and adventurous characters that will keep you up all night?

Si Fa Sol Si - Català; Ara i Sempre

Today is Saturday, so I will make the word a little bit more complicated, because is not a word is a phrase! ;) And I don't think you will discover what does it mean Si Fa Sol Si... /sɪfɑsɒlsɪ/

Because this is a sentence let me say that we use quite often, but at the same time is a hieroglyph, a music hieroglyph. So, today apart from the word I normally show you, I'll show you how we read the piano notes! ;)
Take a look at the difference...

So, what I am writing is Si Fa Sol Si, and it means If it is sunny, yes.
Sometimes learning a new language is not so boring, am I right?

Southern Discomfort by Caroline Fardig - Blog Tour

Southern Discomfort by Caroline Fardig
Genre: Cozy Mystery
Source: Great Escapes
Rating: 4/5

When Quinn Bellandini finds the brother of her best friend dead, she would never thought that she will be person of interest of the murder... and when Drew (the brother of the victim and Quinn's best friend) is put under arrest, she starts investigating, because she knows he is innocent and doesn't want to be the next suspect!

'"Do you hear how absurd you sound?"
"This whole thing is absurd!" I cried, lowering my voice as I got some disdainful side-eye from the other guests. "When have you ever heard of a murder happening and a dozen people having really good reasons to kill the victim?"
"Well, during last weekend's Netflix binge-watching, I seem to recall in this one episode of-"
"I mean in real life, D."
"Oh, well in real life it's always the spouse."'

This had been a quite interesting read, because you could totally understand what Quinn is feeling and why she starts investigating, she is not curious, she is really terrified to start questioning some possible suspects. But at the same time, she knows if she doesn't investigate it doesn't seem that the police will do it, they think they already have the suspect!
Of course the victim is not a saint, he has a very dark character, some debts, maybe an affair... and is divorcing her wife... so everyone has a motive, even her brother... so Quinn will have to be quite sharp if she really wants to discover the truth, this is not an easy case to decipher, be prepared for a lot of theories but not many of them are correct!
It was nice too the relation Quinn had with her family, and specially her sister Delilah, their mutual protection but not afraid to say always the truth, lovely! And be prepared for a mysterious presence... I don't believe in ghosts, but maybe in the B&B they both own there's an uncle who take care of them...
There's a little bit of romance in the story too, a handsome school friend that seems quite interested in Quinn, but after so many failed dates, I am not sure they are ready for anything more than enemies?
If you are searching for a new cozy mystery, this had been a great read, and I am sure the next Quinn adventure will be a must read too!

Stranger Things By Sophia Ayuso

I love the simplicity of Sophia Ayuso characters, take a look at the famous Stranger Things characters and tell me that you don't recognise them, because I will not believe you! ;)

Aigua - Català; Ara i Sempre

Aigua is my little one first word, I am not sure if it is because we used a lot or because he is thirsty all day...! Aigua /æɪˈɡwə/

Yes, this is an easy word to know the translation in English... Aigua is Water; an odorless, tasteless liquid compound of hydrogen and oxygen that makes up rain, oceans, lakes, and rivers.
Here is a song I sang with my mother when I was little...

Si Vols Aigua Ben Fresca - Xesco Boix                    If you want really cold water - Xesco Boix
Si vols aigua ben fresca,                    If you want really cold water,
a la font has d’anar.                    at the drinking fountain you have to go
Si el que vols és la gresca                    If what you want is an uproar
un bon vi has de buscar.                    a good wine you have to search.
Oh, là, li,...                    Oh, là, li,...
Oh, larà, liria, oh, lalà,                    Oh, larà, liria, oh, lalà,
cucut, cucut (3)                    cucut, cucut (3)
Oh, larà, liria, oh!                    Oh, larà, liria, oh!

It was funny because when I searched for the author of this song there were a lot of modifications with the lyric, quite strange that only the original says wine! ;)

The House Swap by Rebecca Fleet

The House Swap by Rebecca Fleet
Genre: Psychological Thriller
Source: Doubleday
Rating: 4'5/5

This is a disturbing but addictive psychological thriller that will keep you up all night.

"The key slides and turns in the lock, smooth and slippery as a silverfish. Lying in bed last night, staring at the trembling shadows of the branches grazing agains the window and thinking of this moment, I thought it would be harder. I imagined scratching metal. Jarring resistance. After everything that has led me here, it feels s if it should be more of an effort. But it's easy -an anti-climax, even. An eggshell cracked in the hand and tossed aside."

First of all, if you are planning for a house swap this summer, keep this book till you return, because after reading it maybe you will re-think about it... Sorry!
This story is told between the past and the present of Caroline and Francis marriage, when the things were difficult and the secrets started; and the present, were they are trying to reconnect and have the spark they had before. And then there’s a mystery voice, the person that made the swap with them, has a secret agenda... Who could be? And what is Caroline hiding?
While this slow burning mystery evolves we discover the truth about Caroline and Francis marriage, they had passed a very dark period, this had to be their way to relax and connect, but as the book passes we know that Caroline secret is too big to keep it hidden and maybe it will change their life forever.
This had been a twisty read, but it felt real and human. I’ve done house swap a few times, and sharing your house with an stranger is something intimate and scary at the same time. You never know what you’ll find in the other house, and this is the mystery Rebecca Fleet uses amazingly to penetrate on your skin. Because the anxious is not just when you go to the new house but returning to your own and pray that will be still there.
This is a book to read, share and comment, I am sure it will make you think about some important aspects of your life.
Ready for a swap?

Hivern - Català; Ara i Sempre

Ok, is it a fact that I am not a very good teacher, it seems that I put the cart before the horse, because really, after the days and the months I should tell you the seasons, isn't it? More normal... sorry! I started this project as a way to fight for the Catalan and I didn't have a program at all... but I can promise you that I am trying to be interesting and original and share things that if you don't live there you couldn't know. So ok, today is the moment to share with you the word "Hivern"...

And after all the "silly" talk I made before, I am sure you could guess what it means Hivern, yes, Winter, like "Winter is Coming" from Game of Thrones! Winter as, the cold season between autumn and spring.

Oli, sal i pa calent, fa de bon passar l'hivern.
Oil, salt and hot bread, makes it easier to go through winter.

This is something really typical from the people that lives or have a country house, don't think about a mansion, a simple house with 2 rooms, a kitchen and a living room, but with a fire place and some big extension to cultivate vegetables and fruits. I had spent a lot of years making fire outside to cook meat and toast bread, let me say, delicious! ;)

Magnote Toys

I've seen the Magnote Piperoid cute animals a few times at the toy shop, sadly I haven't bought any of them...! But this doesn't mean they are not cute and so perfect for any kid (or adult kid) to create one of these animals and have a lot of fun!

The Piperoid are handmade animals (because you assemble them, of course!) with paper pipes and pre-drilled holes, really easy to create and of course don't put them near water or they will melt...!
Take a look at the new designs, they are so cute...

Note for myself, the next time I see them, buy one of each! :)

Taca - Català; Ara i Sempre

I know this seems a quite weird word, what could it mean? It's not easy to discover... Taca! /tækə/

Taca... okay one clue... you don't like wearing them... Any idea yet? Taca is the same as Stain; a mark caused by foreign matter on a material. Yes, this is another of those words that have no similarity at all, that makes this more fun, don't you think?

Ok, today I will share with you a tongue-twister with the word Taca, let me know if you can say it quickly! ;)

Paco guarda les poques copes que, a poc a poc, Paca toca i taca.
Paco save the few glasses that, step by step, Paca touch it and stain.

Yes, it doesn't have any sense at all, but tongue-twisters are not funny for the meaning of the sentence but the difficulty to say them!

Plum Tea Crazy by Laura Childs - Blog Tour

Plum Tea Crazy by Laura Childs

Theodosia Browning has a full agenda with a lot of tea meetings and solving murders! Because when someone dies in front of your eyes, of course you can't stay without investigating, I am right?

'"Theodoisa was in shock. It was if the poor man had been caught in a hellish pinball machine, helplessly spinning and bouncing his way downward.
Theodosia felt Drayton's hand grab her shoulder in a death grip as they watched the man take a final, sharp tumble and then disappear into darkness.
"Was he really shot?" Drayton asked, his voice hoarse and shaking. "By the cannon? Or did he fall?"'

As we start reading the new Theodosia adventure, all of favourite characters return to our mind making us eager to know more about their routine and how their friendship has progressed. Of course this mystery will not be something simple. Theodosia likes quite complicated mysteries full of possible murders and some different plots to keep us entertained all the story!
In this case we will be in a few tea meetings, a new gallery in town and maybe a ghost?
It's always nice to read a book that has more than a mystery inside and the Laura Childs series has a lot of friendship, tea delicatessen and some love to spark to plot of this curious murder... Because even if it's easy to discover who the real killer is, you don't read this series just for the murder but for all the charming characters that we can find inside. Let me say that Drake has a very peculiar personality, but it gives the special thing on this series! ;)
This is the 19th book of the Tea Shop Mysteries, but you can read it as standalone.
Ready for another amazing tea book?

Sounds interesting? Good luck in the Giveaway!

Genre: Fiction (based on a true story)
Source: Bookollective

A heartbreaking true story about how can an abusive childhood can change their lives forever, but at the same time their strength and power to say stop, now I live.
This had not been an easy read, is never easy to read a story about how a men abuse his family again and again without anyone being able to stop it, and let me say it was so difficult that sometimes I had to just stop reading to get some fresh air, Christine's words were so hurting and sad....

"In evening school, I had taken some psychology courses in an attempt to understand the relationship between my dad and me, and why he behaved as he did. I will never know his real motives and beliefs. It is easier for me to cope thinking there was a reason for his ways, rather than living with the idea that I was dumped and never wanted."

Interested? I have the pleasure to have a giveaway with the book and some chocolates! (Thanks to Bookollective and Christine Clayfield) So if you are in the UK, good luck! ;)

Mirall - Català; Ara i Sempre

I know this is a tricky word to pronounce, but is a beautiful word that allows you to take care of yourself and make you recognise your abilities, not just your beauty... Mirall /mɪræ:ll/

Any idea what does it mean? The only similarity is the first letter, Mirall... M... Mirror; a reflecting surface, usually of glass with a silvery backing. Can I ask you a personal question? Do you have one on your purse? I was quite surprised when I was in Japan that they have a lot of different mirror sizes and forms, like they use it quite often... and you?

Today I will share with you a little (very little!) fragment of one of the most famous authors in Catalonia, Mercè Rodoreda, Mirall Trencat. She is an author that loves to use adjectives, and is quite peculiar of how she wrote, take a look...

The breakdowns that she was going up exhausted, couldn't sleep and during the sunrise she was getting hungry. She couldn't explain the happiness that she was feeling exposed on the balcony of that house, eating borregos and a tablet of chocolate after another while the sky was turning light and the beginning of the sparrows to sign inside the laurel. She will still have time to take a nap.

Llibre - Català; Ara i Sempre

The word I am presenting today is quite easy to discover if you know what do I love... llibres!

Yes, I love very much llibres, maybe more than love; fascinated, addicted obsessed... by Books, of course! By books I mean; a work printed on sheets of paper bound together within covers.

So today I'll share with you a beautiful poem by the poetess Joana Raspall called "Els Llibres", I hope you like it!

ELS LLIBRES de Joana Raspall
Cada llibre té un secret                    Every book has a secret
disfressat de blanc i negre;                    Dressed up with black and white;
tot allò que et diu a tu                    everything that says to you
un altre no ho pot entendre.                    another one can not understand.

Tot allò que et donarà                    Everything that will give you
no ocupa lloc, ni pesa,                    doesn't take up, neither weight,
t’abrigarà contra el fred                    it will cover you up against the cold
d’ignorància i de tristesa.                    of the ignorance and the sadness.

Amb els llibres per amics                    With the books as friends
no et faltarà companyia.                    you will never need company.
Cada pàgina pot ser                    Every page could be
un estel que et fa de guia.                    a tail that it will guide you.
